How does OutaCloud Monitoring work technically?

We use a proven open-source stack consisting of Prometheus, Grafana, and Alertmanager. We install lightweight exporters on your Proxmox nodes that collect metrics and send them encrypted to our central monitoring instance. You don't need to provide any hardware – we handle the entire infrastructure.

Why isn't the built-in Proxmox display enough?

The Proxmox GUI only shows the current state. If CPU spikes at night and returns to normal by morning, you won't see it there. We record historical data and detect trends. Our system watches even when you're not logged in and intelligently filters out false alarms.

Question 3

Do you need VPN access to my network?

Accepted Answer

Not necessarily. Our agents work "push-based" or through secured tunnels (e.g., WireGuard). We don't need to open insecure ports in your firewall. The connection is strictly outbound and TLS-encrypted. Your infrastructure remains securely isolated.

Is my Ceph or ZFS storage also monitored?

Absolutely. As Proxmox experts, we know storage is critical. We monitor S.M.A.R.T. values, ZFS pool health, Ceph OSDs, and NVMe wear. We often detect a dying hard drive days before failure based on error patterns that get lost in the standard GUI.

What does "anomaly detection" mean?

Classic monitoring only alerts at fixed thresholds (e.g., "disk full"). Our expert configuration also detects unusual patterns – like when network traffic suddenly explodes at 3 AM even though no backups are running. This is often an early indicator of security issues that we report to you immediately.

Do I need to monitor dashboards myself?

With our Managed Monitoring, that's not necessary. We handle the interpretation of the data for you. Our team filters out the "noise" (irrelevant alerts) and only contacts you when action is actually required. We act as your external filter so you can focus on your core business.

How do you replace AWS CloudWatch or Azure Monitor during a migration?

Accepted Answer

During a migration (e.g., Exit AWS), we build you a modern open-source stack based on Prometheus (metrics), Grafana (visualization), and Loki (logs). We replicate your existing CloudWatch metrics 1:1 in this stack and build custom dashboards for your team, so you maintain full visibility – but without the high ingestion costs of hyperscalers.

What happens to my Application Logs (formerly CloudWatch Logs)?

We integrate Grafana Loki into your setup. It's the equivalent of CloudWatch Logs, but much more efficient. We configure your servers and containers so that logs are centrally collected, indexed, and searchable. Your development team can perform error analysis exactly as they're used to.

Can you also visualize business metrics?

Accepted Answer

Yes. When we build the monitoring setup for you, we don't limit ourselves to just CPU and RAM. We can configure custom exporters to make business-critical KPIs visible in Grafana (e.g., "orders per minute" or "active users"). We discuss this individually during the design phase.

How am I alerted to outages in the Managed Service?

Accepted Answer

We handle the complete alert management. When our system detects a critical issue, we immediately notify you (or your team) through the agreed channels – e.g., via email, Slack, Teams, or Telegram. We ensure you only get woken up for real emergencies (Priority 1).
